Perks of Leadership December 17, 2006
When I received a lovely holiday card from my niece on her law firm’s card, I couldn’t help but reflect on the effects of time and experience. She was an adorable and precocious child yesterday, and is a stunning, accomplished attorney today.
My days of naiveté and wonder at the business world are long gone, yet I still relive that feeling as I work with groups of young executives who still thrill at the first time they must present to senior management or propose their first major initiative. In many ways I have the best of all worlds. If you’ve ever taken a child through their first experience with something, whether it’s their first step, first car trip, or first time to Disney World, you know the excitement of seeing the world through their amazed eyes. For me, business is my Disney World, and I am blessed to relive it over and again through the eyes of program participants. It just doesn’t get any better than this! It’s potentially the greatest perk of leading others.
